Obronak Winery: From the slope. To the glass.

A family winery on the northern slopes of Fruška Gora, above Sremski Karlovci. Fourteen hectares, six grape varieties and wines that take their time.

About

A small winery. Patient wines.

Obronak is a family estate above Sremski Karlovci. We make wine only from grapes we grow ourselves, in quantities we can follow from vine to bottle.

The north slope

Our vineyards sit between 180 and 320 metres, facing the Danube. Cool nights keep the grapes fresh and aromatic.

Picked by hand

Every grape is picked by hand into small crates, early in the morning, and reaches the press within the hour.

No shortcuts

No added aromas, no hurry. Fermentation is slow, and a wine only sees oak when it is better for it.

The old cellar

The family cellar dates from the 1890s. Restored in 2009, it holds 13 °C all year round.

Vineyards and harvest

Harvest starts before dawn.

We pick from late August to mid-October, always in the morning while the bunches are cool. Each variety has its own rows on the slope and its own day — and we only decide once we have tasted the berries.

    What is Tamjanika?

Serbia's most aromatic grape smells sweet, but ours is completely dry. A short guide to where it comes from, how it tastes and what to eat with it.
